The destroyers and cruisers are the best options for those who like powerful. The downsides are that its torpedo and gun damage is relatively poor at higher tiers, despite having the Defensive AA skill, your base anti-aircraft damage is quite low. These original ships rely on speed and powerful armament instead of thick armor. Starting with tier 8, you get 360 degree rotating gun turrets, giving you the ability to gunboat effectively while using your excellent maneuverability. The main specialty of this line is the ability to single-fire torps, much like the cruiser lines do, which gives you the ability to get all of your torpedoes on target, at the risk of possibly missing entirely. RN DDs start out as predominantly torpedo boats with underperforming guns which gradually get better starting at tier 7 through the rest of the line until reaching tier 10, which is a balanced hybrid torpedo/gunboat. They are equipped with Fuel Smoke which allows a boat to remain screened while travelling at full speed. In short though it still depends on your play style. Their main specialty is the additional specialties like smokescreen power etc. Royal Navy destroyers receive a smoke skill at Tier III, the earliest in the game. Russian destroyers are more gun ships, while the Americans have some of the better combo destroyers in the top tiers but more on the gun ship side than the torpedo side.
